The Radical Exegete

Some folks just want pure Bible- and that's what this site is for. It isn't always pretty, and the writing is rarely excellent, but if you're looking for a study done on a particular bible topic, we might have it! These are a posting of my personal studies and I hope they are helpful for some.

Why can the sacrifices of the OT not take away sins?

(Heb 9 and 10)

1. They must be offered continually, because they are weak.
2. They have nothing to do with doing God's will, which is the only thing God takes pleasure in
3. They are only symbols of sanctification, not the reality of it.
4. The temple on earth is only a representation of the true one in heaven
5. The will cannot be processed until the one who made it dies.  The animals died, but God established the covenant, who cannot die.
6. Until the high priest who is making the sacrifice dies for his people, the covenant is not firmly established.  For death is the creator of the covenant.  The animals symbolized the death, but they could not die willingly.

Why does Jesus' death take away sins?
1. He fully represents his people who call him Lord and whom he finds acceptable.
2. He had no sin in him and so was an unblemished/clean sacrifice.
3. He sacrificed himself fully and willingly in faith of God's promises
4. After his sacrifice, he stood in the real temple of God, before God himself, and God declared him Lord of his kingdom

5. The death of Jesus ratified the covenant/will.
